What's Your Story, 204?

Thank you so much for checking out the We Are 204 reading promotion. The goal of this program is to celebrate reading, celebrate one another, and open dialogue about books (and life!) among staff and students across all three high schools in the district.

The books on the We Are 204 list have been selected to celebrate a variety of stories and life experiences. Each book on the list has been carefully selected by the high school librarians based on reviews from reputable organizations including School Library Journal and the American Library Association. Many have received prestigious book awards as well. Whether you enjoy poetry, short stories, graphic novels, novel, or nonfiction - there is something on this list for you!

How might you use this list? Ideally, you would just start to read! Pick up a copy from your school library, public library, Anderson’s Bookstore, or throw one in your Amazon cart. When you are done, share your thoughts with a friend, a family member, a classmate, or a teacher. Invite other people in your class, on your team, in your club to read a title together. Set a goal and challenge yourself to read until you meet it.

In addition to reading, we’d love for you to key into one or more of the district-wide events planned around this list. Stay tuned for information! Check back in to this site often as we add discussion prompts for each book, ideas for using these books with a group, pictures of readers, event details and more!

The three high schools in Indian Prairie 204 - Waubonsie Valley, Neuqua Valley, and Metea Valley - are full of amazing students with many unique life experiences and stories to share. We believe that reading can be both a mirror and a window - allowing us to see reflections of ourselves on the pages, and also helping us see into the experiences of those who are unlike us. Reading stories can build empathy and understanding, give us hope in the face of difficulties, and remind us that we are more alike than we are different.

Fondly,

Eric Bodwell, Amy Madzinski, Kristen Mattson, and Carrie Ory
